Bad Ischl

Year Round Holidays in the Salzkammergut Lakes and Mountains

Spring,Summer & Autumn

Bad Ischl – History and Culture
Bad Ischl is an active town, with festivals and events throughout the year.Explore the town’s links with the Austrian royal family at the Kaiservilla and town museum.Or you can just relax on the esplanade and enjoy some coffee and cake at Zauner’s Konditorei, or while away the hours in the Eurotherme Spa. For those who enjoy music, the summer months provide endless variety with up to 3 concerts a day in the parks and concert halls of the town. The main event throughout the summer is the Lehar Festival which celebrates the life and works of the composer who lived in Bad Ischl. Visit the Lehar Villa where he lived. There are lovely walks and cycle rides in the town and surrounding countryside
Active Holidays
For those who enjoy an active holiday the area is superb for walking, cycling, water sports, horse riding, fishing, paragliding, sailing and many other sports too numerous to mention! Just ask us about what you want to do.
Places of Interest
If you prefer a more relaxing break you can just savour the beautiful scenery and the Austrian villages. Lake Wolfgang is just 15 minutes away, with the villages of Strobl, St Gilgen and St Wolfgang (of “White Horse Inn” fame) on its shores. You can spend a most enjoyable day sailing between the villages, stopping off at each one to go exploring. Visit the summer tobogan rides at Strobl & Fuschl or take the railway to the top of the Schafberg mountain for great views across the lakes the the Dachstein mountains.

Also nearby is the very picturesque village of Hallstatt, famous for its 7000 year long history of salt mining, and now a UNESCO World Heritage site. Nearby you can visit the salt mines, the Dachstein caves and the Ice cave at Obertraun.

Just that little bit further away, but well worth a visit, is Salzburg. The home of Mozart, the city is still alive with fine music, museums, cathedrals and gardens. You can even take the “Sound of Music” tour to visit the sites used in the film.

The region has a rich culture, with festivals throughout the year. There is always something to visit, to see, or to do, whatever the season: alpine meadows to walk through in spring; warm lakes in which to swim in summer; golden vistas in autumn.

Eurotherme – Salzkammergut Thermal Spa
For complete luxury ,or to recover hard worked muscles, a visit to the thermal spa at the EuroTherme – Bad Ischl is a must. The spa has pool heated to 33 degrees C, saunas, steam baths, whirlpools and a full range of therapeutic massages and beauty therapies. Why not treat yourself! Eurotherme opens every day from 09:00 – 00:00.
Golf
The Salzkammergut Golf Club is a short distance from our house, and visitors are welcome. The 18 hole course set in spectacular scenery, between Bad Ischl and Strobl. The club has a modern clubhouse and golf shop. The Franz Laimer Golf Training Centre is next to the course and is open all year.

For a change of venue, there are also courses at Fuschl, Mondsee (2 courses) and Bad Aussee. All are within about 45 minutes drive of our house.

Winter

Bad Ischl in Winter
Winter is a magical time in Bad Ischl. The mountains are wrapped in snow and there is every sort of winter pursuit available in the area. We are right in the centre of the Dachstein West ski region with its network of 45 lifts and cable cars serving over 140 kilometres of wide, well groomed piste .After a day in the mountains why not enjoy an evening in one of the great choice of restaurants and bars in Bad Ischl? Aprés ski in Bad Ischl is very “civilised”

Relatively unknown to skiers outside Austria and Germany, this is an excellent ski area with modern facilities, set in breathtaking scenery. There is skiing to suit all levels from beginners to the most experienced skier, top class ski schools and welcoming mountain restaurants. In fact everything you need for a great ski holiday!

Ski touring is one of the fastest growing winter sports. Sounds mad? Maybe but fans of the sport love to get away from the crowds and ski free. The Katrinalm in Bad Ischl 10 minutes by bus from the is a designated ski touring centre.

Take a look at:

We are 25 minutes by car ( or about an hour by ski bus) from Postalm Activity Centre. This is the highest alpine plateau in Austria, sunny and snow sure.Great for families! About Us

Hello,

We are Linda and Trevor Harpham.

We fell in love with Austria on our first visit in 1985 and returned many times to enjoy relaxing holidays. In 2006 we were able to fulfill our dream to live here. In Bad Ischl we operate Bad Ischl Central and  our apartment house Haus Strutzenberger.

Our guests come from across the world. Some are visiting Austria for the first time. Many are regular visitors to this part of the world. They all find Bad Ischl and the Salzkammergut is a special  part of the world. A wonderful mix of stunningly beautiful lake and mountain scenery and time honoured local traditions.

Having worked long hours at our jobs in the UK, we really appreciate how important holidays are. A time to relax and recharge your batteries! We work hard to make sure that all our visitors have a most enjoyable time. We can give you lots of information about things to do in the area and help you get the most from your stay.

We look forward to welcoming you to our home.

Linda and Trevor
